TED GINNNNN

Say what you will about the 49ers' management, but they've never had to trade a top 10 drafted player just 2 years after he was chosen. For peanuts. When I heard about this deal 2 things came to mind:

  • LOL cam cameron, and
  • Wow, the 49ers are actually intelligent.

This post comes with the disclaimer that I have no idea what pick they gave up (all I've heard is "late round", which must be like a 5?), but I really really like this move. A lot. Remember, when you trade for Ted Ginn, you don't just get Ted Ginn, you get Ted Ginn's whole family. And for a 5th rounder (maybe) at that!

But seriously, a guy who's proven he can make an impact in the NFL by returning kicks. Imagine that. They don't need to spend a 1st rounder on him, and he won't be under any pressure to be a game-breaking number 1 (or even number FOUR) WR. He can be a return man and that's it, and they won't have any stupid ideas of trying to work him into the WR rotation, since they have 4 guys who have wayy more talent there.

He won't give the kind of threat on offense that a guy like Spiller would, but I think that if you used him in an innovative way (probably not going to happen), he could definitely give defenses something to think about. Also, he was wayyy cheaper than Spiller would be.

God damn, seriously- this was a great decision. It gives them a lot more flexibility with those 2 first round picks.
